In 2025, I worked as a freelance photo retoucher for Better Day Books and Schiffer Publishing, preparing artwork and photography for publication across a variety of creative instructional books.
During the project, I edited and color-corrected images, ensuring that artwork remained visually consistent, accurate, and publication-ready. Because many of the books featured artwork from individual artists, maintaining faithful color reproduction was a critical part of the workflow.
Challenges
One of the most important aspects of this project was maintaining color consistency across thousands of images destined for print publication.
Artwork often originated from different sources and lighting conditions, requiring careful correction to ensure that colors remained true to the artist’s original work while appearing consistent throughout each publication. Every adjustment had to enhance the image without altering the artist’s intent.
Managing a volume of about 3,000 images also required an efficient workflow, strong organizational skills, and meticulous quality control to maintain accuracy throughout the projects.
Results
Over a seven-month period, I successfully edited and prepared about 3,000 images for print publication. The completed work helped support the clients’ mission of producing inspiring, high-quality creative publications by ensuring that artists’ work was reproduced accurately and consistently across multiple books and product lines.
